Browse piano sheets by Radwimps on Zen Virtual Piano. Formed in 2001, RADWIMPS made their major label debut in 2005 and soon garnered a broad fan base, with the younger generation at the core. The band’s music for Shinkai’s previous record-breaking animated feature films “Your Name.” and “Weathering with You” led to recognitions at the Japanese Academy Award for Best Original Score. A band with a young fan base and a film-score award can be read as having reached more than one kind of audience. For the soundtrack “Grand Escape,” featuring Toko Miura, RADWIMPS took a background role for the vocals. For the scene that plays “Grand Escape,” where Hodaka goes to save Hina, the director had a piece of more mellow music in mind. The band says it was careful in how it matched the music to the visuals, and that the director also changed his visuals to match its music, so that the visuals and music matched and inspired each other and turned out to be a true collaboration. A scene that began with milder music in mind and ended in a mutual adjustment of picture and sound can be read as a brief that changed as the work went on. “Forever Daze” was written and recorded throughout the pandemic and speaks to the musical challenges the band faced and their hopes moving forward, with a diverse group of collaborators and experimental elements. Work made through the pandemic and joined by many collaborators can be read as a group opening its doors under pressure. To coincide with the movie release around the world, the band went on the road for their 2023 sold-out North American, European, Australian and Asian tours, with more follow-up dates in Asia and Latin America in 2024. A tour timed to a worldwide release and spread across four regions shows how far the band’s live plans reached.
