The Sound Of Silence by Disturbed

The Sound of Silence is a song written by Paul Simon and recorded by Simon & Garfunkel. Simon is reported to have completed it in February 1964, with work beginning in November 1963, and the acoustic version appeared as track 6 of their debut album Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. that year; an overdubbed electric folk-rock single was released in 1965 and reached number one on the Hot 100 in January 1966, and the title track led the second album, Sounds of Silence, released on 17 January 1966. The piano score catalogued here is associated with the Disturbed interpretation, not the original recording. The band, with David Draiman, Dan Donegan and Mike Wengren performing on the recording, placed it on their sixth studio album Immortalized, released on 21 August 2015, and issued it as the album's third single on 7 December 2015. Bassist John Moyer remained a member of the band even though he was absent from these sessions. Disturbed's version is an acoustic track with piano and orchestral backing that deliberately departs from the band's metal sound, with Draiman drawing on cantorial and classical influences. Treat it as a cover of a 1960s song: the composition was completed in 1964, the single dates to 1965, its number-one run and the Sounds of Silence album to 1966, and the band did not write it.
