La Vie En Rose by Édith Piaf

La Vie en Rose is a French chanson that became Édith Piaf's signature song. Piaf wrote the lyrics, and the music is credited to Louiguy, the professional name of Louis Guglielmi, though later accounts have described other contributions to the song inconsistently. The song dates to 1945, and Piaf performed it publicly in 1946 before her celebrated single appeared in 1947 on Columbia, with Un refrain courait dans la rue on the B-side. Marianne Michel reportedly recorded the song first, in November 1946, ahead of Piaf's single. Its American breakthrough followed in 1950, when several artists recorded it, and Mack David wrote a separate English adaptation that postdates the French original and was already in use by 1950. The selected MuseScore score is a later piano arrangement, not the original release. Its intermediate label is the score title only; the platform metadata actually rates it easy. Its texture and key belong to that edition, while Piaf's 1947 single was a vocal performance with orchestral accompaniment. The 1998 Grammy Hall of Fame honor recognized the Piaf single rather than any piano transcription.
