Toshihiko Sahashi

Browse piano sheets by Toshihiko Sahashi on Zen Virtual Piano. Sahashi graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Faculty of Music, Department of Composition, in 1986. At the CBS Sony-sponsored New Artist Audition 1988 he won both the Best Artist Award and the Christine Reed Award. A degree in composition and two prizes within two years put the start of his career close to his training. Shows at Tokyo Disneyland, among them Castle Show and Starlight Fantasy, had music by him from the park's fifth anniversary onward; in 1994 he was also in charge of the music for the opening event of the Asian Games. For four years in a row, 1991 to 1994, he wrote the opening song of the NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen, and in 1999 he composed Minna no Taiso, which the Postal Savings Bureau of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications set up with NHK. Park shows, a games opening and a national gymnastics tune show music written for crowds and for daily routine. He now writes music for movies, TV dramas and anime, and works as a composer across genres from classical to rock. Richly symphonic and classical, occasionally jazz, his composition style often shows sophisticated techniques and complicated harmony such as fugue, which demonstrates his solid training in western classical music. Fugue and symphonic color inside anime and drama scores may be how that classical training stays audible across such a range of work.
