Browse piano sheets by Sonya Belousova on Zen Virtual Piano. In an interview on nofspodcast.com, Sonya Belousova described being born in Russia and always exposed to a great classical Russian education, starting piano at five and starting composing at ten. Belousova took part in many international competitions and received the Russian Ministry of Culture Award at thirteen. That sequence can be read as a training that moved from playing to writing to being judged. Belousova says the partnership started when Giona was working on a David and Clara Mamet film, Two-Bit Waltz, which required a very eclectic score, from electro-pop to bluegrass and virtuosic classical piano, and Giona called Belousova up to do the film together. In a Spitfire Audio interview Belousova said the two work well together because they come from different music backgrounds. A pairing of different backgrounds suggests a team whose scores owe some of their range to the differences between its members. The Spitfire Audio interview calls The Witcher a completely different process, writing and recording at the same time, starting with their hurdy-gurdy. When they start working on any new project, they try not to look for inspiration in other scores, because they feel then they are developing existing material instead of creating something new. Beginning with a hurdy-gurdy while avoiding other scores for inspiration can be read as a team choosing a distinctive starting point over a familiar one. They worked closely with Joey Batey, who plays Jaskier in the show, writing and producing four songs for the character Jaskier: Toss a Coin to Your Witcher for episode two, Her Sweet Kiss for episode six, The Fishmonger’s Daughter for episode four and You Think You’re Safe for episode two. Belousova told HuffPost that Player Piano, for which Belousova composes, produces and performs original arrangements, was initially executive produced by Stan Lee of Marvel Comics, and that what interests Belousova most is that it allows composing and performing within the same project. Composing, arranging, producing and performing within one project gives a piece of music the feel of a single body of work, from the first notes to the finished sound.
