Ron Jones

Browse piano sheets by Ron Jones on Zen Virtual Piano. Ron Jones has said that he gravitated toward arranging and composing from about the age of 11 or 12, when he joined a local drum and bugle corps in Bellevue, Washington, and played in a large group of brass players. He would get friends from the corps together to experiment, and eventually he was leading his own corps and composing and arranging professionally for all sorts of groups while still in high school. A boy leading his own corps and arranging for groups before graduating can be read as a composer who started by building ensembles. He holds a B.A. in music theory and composition, and graduated from the Dick Grove school arranging and composing program as well as its film scoring program. He taught electronic scoring at USC under Buddy Baker for several years, and was mentored by Lalo Schifrin, whose protégé he was for three years. He began working as a composer before he graduated from Dick Grove, writing for an NBC movie of the week and for several network animated TV series produced by Hanna-Barbera, under the guidance of the studio’s music director, Hoyt Curtin. Guidance from Lalo Schifrin and Hoyt Curtin, set beside a degree in composition, can be read as training drawn from both the academy and working composers. After Duck Tales, Jones worked on the first four seasons of Paramount’s series Star Trek: The Next Generation, which offered a perfect opportunity to use all the skills he had acquired from animation, live-action series and independent features. His theme for Butch Hartman’s The Fairly OddParents series won BMI’s TV and Film award for being the most performed theme on television for three years in a row (2002–2004). A most-performed television theme from a composer who drew on animation and live-action experience can be read as range turning into reach. These days Jones concentrates more on composing for the concert hall. His many honors and awards include a Grammy nomination, five Emmy nominations and multiple awards from ASCAP, BMI and SACEM. A composer who now concentrates on concert-hall music can be read as someone turning toward a different kind of audience.
