Roberto Guerra

Browse piano sheets by Roberto Guerra on Zen Virtual Piano. Roberto Guerra is a pianist who took his diploma with the highest marks, with distinction and a mention of honour, and then studied composition, graduating in Choral Music and Choir Direction at the “G. B. Martini” Conservatory in Bologna. His first musical studies began on the accordion at the age of nine, and he joined folk and popular music groups very young. An accordion at nine and a conservatory diploma later set folk groups beside classical study. From 1981 to 2005 a productive artistic career and seven first prizes in piano competitions took him to the major European musical centres, with hundreds of concerts from Italy to Carnegie Hall in New York. He took part in numerous specialization courses, including the piano academy “Incontri col Maestro” in Imola, where he studied with Dario De Rosa, and seminars by Lazar Berman, Alexander Lonquich and Riccardo Chailly. Seminars with several named teachers sit beside competition prizes as another route into the profession. He has always devoted himself to teaching and the popularisation of music, with many collaborations in his city, among them the University for the Third Age, state elementary and secondary schools, including the Liceo Classico Muratori, and the municipal districts. He directed the Schola Gregoriana of the Modena Cathedral from 1995 to 2002 and founded the women’s choir “Note di Donne,” which he has directed since 2008. A cathedral schola and a women’s choir show choral music running through his working life. A pianist who also directed choirs and collaborated with schools gave his musical life a public and teaching side beside the concert stage. He has written the soundtrack for commercials and short advertising films, for Scuderie Ferrari and Ceramiche Estima in Russia, and for the documentary film L’uomo Antonio Ligabue by the director Ezio Aldoni, released in June 2015. Writing for commercials and a documentary shows a composer whose pieces were asked to serve other stories. His 16 titles for solo piano, composed in about five years, are part of some 40 compositions often written in a burst, describing an event or giving a musical representation of a feeling. He chose the piano alone, in balance between the pop and classical styles, in order to concentrate on the core of the music, eliminating every dress and accessory that might distract from the emotionally vibrant notes. A concert pianist who strips his own pieces down to the notes themselves seems to look for the simplest clothing for a feeling.
