Rammstein

Browse piano sheets by Rammstein on Zen Virtual Piano. In 1989 the East German guitarist Richard Kruspe escaped to West Berlin and started the band Orgasm Death Gimmick. Because Kruspe found it hard to write both the music and the words, he asked Lindemann, whom he had overheard singing at work, to join the new group. In 1994 a contest was held in Berlin for amateur bands, with a week in a professional recording studio as the prize, and the extra m in the name Rammstein makes it translate literally as ramming stone. A guitarist who left one city for another and a singer overheard at work show a band assembled out of chance encounters. The same six people have played in Rammstein from the start: Till Lindemann on lead vocals, Richard Kruspe on lead guitar, Paul Landers on rhythm guitar, Oliver Riedel on bass, Christoph Schneider on drums and Christian Flake Lorenz on keyboards. Their approach to songwriting also stayed fixed: Lindemann writes and sings the lyrics over instrumental pieces the rest of the band has already completed. Rammstein's debut album led the music press to coin the term Neue Deutsche Härte, and the band was one of the first to emerge within the genre. A line-up that never changed and a method that never changed give the band an unusual steadiness for such a loud style. In February 1999 the band received a nomination for Best Metal Performance at the 41st Annual Grammy Awards. A Grammy nomination in a metal category in February 1999 keeps the attention on the sound the band made, set beside a debut album that gave a genre its label. Sonne served as the lead single from the third studio album, Mutter, in 2001. Till Lindemann says the song began as an entrance song for the boxer Vitali Klitschko, and that the boxer's surname was its working title. Zeit, the band's eighth studio album, was written and recorded spontaneously while the members sheltered during the COVID-19 lockdowns, and it was released in April 2022. A song written for a boxer's entrance and an album written in lockdown show music that took its shape from a task or a circumstance.
