Browse piano sheets by Persefone on Zen Virtual Piano. Persefone began in early 2001 in Andorra la Vella, Andorra. Its four founders were Carlos Lozano Quintanilla, Jordi Gorgues Mateu, Toni Mestre Coy and Xavi Pérez. The band began by covering groups such as Arch Enemy, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity, and soon wanted to go further, with a first idea of its direction as melodic, complex and aggressive. A Guitars China interview records how the band got its name: the newly formed group struggled with several ideas, someone mentioned Persephone on a TV series, and the band member being interviewed read the whole story and liked it, so the name stuck. A name taken from a television mention and a band that began by covering others show a group still finding its footing. For its next project the band recorded three songs of more than 20 minutes each, and Core relates the story of the Greek goddess Persephone. The band released the Japanese-influenced album Shin-Ken in 2010 and supported Obituary on tour; Spiritual Migration, its fourth record, followed in 2013. A name from mythology that later became the subject of 20-minute songs suggests an idea that kept growing with the band. In the same interview a band member recalls that before their first tour the band had a hard time, spending years trying to fit in a Europe tour without getting the chance. Persefone released Metanoia through Napalm Records, its first output from a label of major stature, and that for a long time it was the only metal band in all of Andorra. Being the only metal band in a whole country and waiting years for a tour hint at how hard it was to be heard from a small place. Vocalist Marc Martins Pia was leaving to focus on family, the band announced on 12 September 2023, and on 17 October 2023 it named Daniel R. Flys of Eternal Storm as his replacement. The interview also has a band member saying that the lyrics are normally written together, with Marc having good skills for fitting the right word on the right timing in every song and taking most of the credit. A lyric process shared among the band, with one voice credited as the genius of it, leaves the 2023 change of vocalist looking like a meaningful handover.
