At the Newton Heath depot of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway, the Carriage and Wagon department formed Manchester United in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR Football Club. In January 1902 the club, with debts of £2,670, was served with a winding-up order. A club formed by a railway depot's Carriage and Wagon department, and the continental treble it later won in 1998–99, may point to a standing very different from the one it held when served with a winding-up order. The media nicknamed the squad, which had an average age of 22, the Busby Babes, a testament to Busby's faith in his youth players; it won back-to-back league titles in 1956 and 1957. Busby rebuilt the team around George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton after the Munich air disaster claimed eight players. That trio became known as the United Trinity. A squad nicknamed the Busby Babes, and a later side rebuilt around star players, may hint that Busby's way of building a team was not limited to youth players. After Busby retired, success was hard to sustain until Alex Ferguson arrived; he became the club's longest-serving and most successful manager, winning 38 trophies between 1986 and 2013. His haul included 13 league titles, five FA Cups and two Champions League titles, and in 1998–99 the club became the first in English football to win the continental treble of the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. The back-to-back league titles of 1956 and 1957, set beside the 13 league titles won between 1986 and 2013, may suggest that the club's league success came in more than one period of its history. Frank Renshaw, who was with Herman's Hermits through the 1970s and 1980s, wrote Glory Glory Man. United, which the squad issued as a single in the run-up to the 1983 FA Cup final. The record was made at Strawberry Studios in Stockport with the players and some of Renshaw's friends, and Renshaw's son Lee sang on it too. Tottenham are widely thought to have been the first club to use the Glory Glory tune for a chant, and Leeds fans sang it as well, yet it has become synonymous with United thanks to the 1983 final. The title Glory Glory Man United was later used for the official club poster magazine, launched in 1994 and published thirteen times a year, and in 2007 a full-length version of Glory Glory Man United was recorded by The World Red Army, produced by Will Robinson and Michael Graves. Tottenham's reputed earlier use of the tune and Leeds fans singing it, set beside its present link with United after the 1983 final, may hint that a chant's ties to a club can shift after a single big match.
