LiSA

Browse piano sheets by LiSA on Zen Virtual Piano. LiSA, born Risa Oribe in 1987 in Seki, Gifu Prefecture, took piano lessons growing up and later added vocal and dance classes. She has said that she lived in a very rural town in Gifu and did not really believe that celebrities existed, thinking of them as people from another world and another country seen on television, like figures in manga or dramas. Lessons in piano, singing and dance beside a sense that television stars lived in another world frame her path as a long way travelled. She says it was seeing the idol group SPEED sing and dance on television that made her want to try that work, noting that one of its members, Hiroko, was in sixth grade at the time, about the same age as LiSA, and that this was when she first thought of becoming a singer. A girl watching someone her own age perform on television can be read as the moment performing became a real possibility. LiSA is a Japanese singer from Gifu who first reached a national audience in 2010, when she was selected to perform the singing parts for Yui, the second vocalist of the fictional band Girls Dead Monster in the anime Angel Beats! After releasing music and touring as Girls Dead Monster starring LiSA, she made her solo debut on 20 April 2011 with the mini-album Letters to U. A fictional band’s second vocalist who then steps out under her own name shows a role in a story becoming a career of her own. LiSA appeared as a guest at the 2012 Anime Expo in Los Angeles, where she also headlined her first North American concert. A guest slot and a headline concert in Los Angeles show her audience reaching beyond Japan. J-pop songstress LiSA collaborated once again with Sword Art Online, contributing “unlasting” as the ending theme of Sword Art Online Alicization War of Underworld. LiSA returned to Demon Slayer in 2021 with “Akeboshi,” the opening theme for the television version of the Mugen Train Arc, before recording “REALiZE” for the Japanese dub of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in 2023. Work for several franchises shows a singer whose songs move easily between series. She has also looked back on a time when things did not go well, when she started a rock band and that did not go well either, saying that she reached the present LiSA by choosing each time whether to stop or continue. Setbacks recalled beside later themes can be read as a path made of choices rather than a single stroke of luck.
