Lil Tecca

Browse piano sheets by Lil Tecca on Zen Virtual Piano. When Ransom first appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 in June, Lil Tecca was a 16-year-old Queens rapper trying to burst through the SoundCloud bubble. He then teamed up with the director Cole Bennett, founder of Lyrical Lemonade, and travelled to the Dominican Republic to film the video, which quickly gained millions of views. Within two months the whistling anthem peaked at No. 4 on the Hot 100. Cole Bennett appearing both as the director of the video and among the tastemakers who noticed his uploads may suggest that Bennett's name connects two separate parts of Tecca's story. He grew up in Springfield Gardens, and in seventh grade moved to Nassau County, Long Island. Complex reports that he began rapping when he tired of roasting a friend while playing Xbox and decided to diss him on a song. He also says he took his sister's laptop, downloaded Audacity, recorded himself over a beat and uploaded it to SoundCloud. Complex adds that uploads to SoundCloud and Instagram caught the attention of tastemakers such as Lil Jake and Cole Bennett. A wish to diss a friend on a song, and a recording made with Audacity on his sister's laptop, may suggest that the uploads that reached Lil Jake and Cole Bennett began as home recordings. He says he kept rapping while playing basketball and nobody knew, and that once he stopped playing basketball he only rapped. At the time of the Complex interview, he was still taking classes, did his schoolwork at home and said he only had time to rap on the weekends. In May, Republic Records signed him to a joint venture with his own imprint, Galactic Records. A joint venture between Republic Records and his own imprint, and a rapper who said nobody knew he was rapping while he played basketball, may suggest a contrast between a private pastime and a business arrangement. Tecca recalls listening to Waka Flocka and says Chief Keef came out of nowhere with Don't Like; he says he is inspired by Speaker Knockerz and not really inspired by the many others he is compared to. Grammy.com describes Virgo World (2020) and We Love You Tecca 2 (2021) as his first two full-length projects and says they put childish things to bed. He tells Grammy.com that on a newer album he focused on bringing all his sounds into a single sound, leaving nothing behind and making sure everything grows with him. Grammy.com's remark that the first two projects put childish things to bed, and Tecca's aim of making everything grow with him on a newer album, may point to growth as a thread linking the earlier projects and the newer one.
