Fereydon Shahbazian

Browse piano sheets by Fereydon Shahbazian on Zen Virtual Piano. Fereydoun Shahbazyan, an Iranian composer and conductor, was born on 11 June 1942 on Fakhr Razi Street, University of Tehran. His father, Hossein Shahbazian, was a well-known violinist. Encouraged and guided by his father, Shahbazyan turned to music. He learned the violin and studied at the Higher Conservatory of Music. Ataollah Khadem Misagh was his first violin teacher and soon handed him on to the Russian teacher Serge Khutsif. A father who was a well-known violinist and a son who learned the violin may point to music close to the family. Heshmat Sanjari conducted the Tehran Symphony Orchestra, which Shahbazyan joined at 17. His work with the Radio Flower Orchestra followed. In 1966 he became the leader of the radio choir and symphony orchestra. His compositions range between national orchestral music and symphonic music in terms of orchestration. He was also the first Iranian musician to ensure that his works were protected by copyright laws prevalent in Europe. His early place in a symphony orchestra and compositions that range into symphonic music may suggest an orchestral grounding behind his writing. Pur kun piyala ra (Fill up the Cup) was among his compositions for the Golha programmes, arranged and performed by Firiydun Mushiri, Muhammad Riza Shajariyan and Habibu'llah Badi'i. From the early 1350s on the Iranian calendar until before the Iranian revolution, Shahbazyan published several collections titled Sedaye Shaer (Voice of the Poet) with help from the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults, collaborating with poets including Ahmad Shamlou, Mehdi Akhavan Sales and Amirhooshang Ebtehaj. The Rubaiyat of Khayyam, with recitation by Ahmad Shamlou, and Gol Goldoon-e Man, with the voice of Simin Ghanem, are among his popular works. Set beside his orchestral and symphonic compositions, his Golha pieces and his collections made with poets show a composer working in more than one setting. The Music Council of Radio and Television was formed in the 1980s by Shahbazyan and producer Ali Moallem Damghani. The council oversaw and promoted pop music in Iran. He wrote the music for many Iranian films and series, such as Autumn by Rasoul Sadrameli, Mirza Kuchak Khan by Amir Qavidel, DadShah by Habib Kavosh and Horse by Masoud Kimiai. From September 2016 to March 2019 Shahbazyan was the conductor of the National Orchestra of Iran. If his work with the Radio Flower Orchestra and the Music Council of Radio and Television are read together, radio and television may appear in more than one part of his career. Does his violin training, beside his soundtracks for Iranian films and series, hint at a range running from a single instrument to music written for the screen?
