After her death, he studied with Eduardo Madeira and Lucien Lambert, then continued largely on his own. At fourteen he composed the polka-lundu Você Bem Sabe, which was published the following year. Nazareth later worked in the waiting area of Rio’s Odeon Cinema, as well as at the music shop Casa Mozart. His compositions included Brazilian tangos, polkas and waltzes. He also recorded with flautist Pedro de Alcântara in 1912, making records of tangos and polkas for Casa Edison. Fon-Fon, published by Casa Arthur Napoleão in 1913, is a Brazilian tango whose title refers to the magazine of the same name. His piano music also sits between classical and popular traditions.
