Browse piano sheets by Dream on Zen Virtual Piano. The American YouTuber Dream released Mask, his second single, on 21 May 2021 through Dream Music. It follows Roadtrip, which Business Insider says the 21-year-old Dream released in February to massive acclaim from his fans. Wikipedia notes that Mask is more rock-influenced than Roadtrip and that its melody was inspired by She’s Kinda Hot by 5 Seconds of Summer. The second single being more rock-influenced than Roadtrip can be read as a shift in sound across two releases within months. The song was produced by Perish Beats and BanRisk, who had produced Roadtrip in February 2021. It was produced remotely, with Dream and the producers working together in a Discord call while Perish shared his screen, and PmBata, who was featured on Roadtrip, also contributed to the songwriting. A song assembled across a shared screen in a call makes the studio look like wherever the participants happen to log in. Wikipedia says the song Mask was inspired by what Dream went through with ADHD as a child. Dream has said that Mask is much more personal than Roadtrip: “I would say, the main reason I’ve been enjoying music is being able to tell stories and talk about things from my life and stuff in a catchy way.” The song originally had different lyrics but was rewritten by Dream, who commented on a now deleted Twitter post that he wrote all the lyrics himself. Rewritten lyrics and a stated wish to tell stories from his own life suggest a songwriter treating a catchy tune as a way to carry something personal. On 8 June the Dream Music channel unveiled the music video for Mask, the second official song from the YouTuber. Dream’s fourth song, Until I End Up Dead, was released through Mercury and Republic Records on 23 June 2023, after he signed to Republic in December 2022, and it was his first song released through a major label. Roadtrip in February 2021 and a major-label song more than two years later mark a path that seems to lead toward a wider stage.
