Browse piano sheets by Dave Wave on Zen Virtual Piano. In 2012 Di Bello opened his YouTube channel with the idea of sharing his music, and his love of it, with the world. While trying to bring his ideas online he discovered the world of digital music production, which became an endless journey of sampling techniques, synthesizers and beats. After a while it felt natural to produce music that combined his jazz experience with these electronic dance music techniques. A channel opened to share music, which then led him into production tools, suggests that the online platform shaped his sound as much as his piano training did, with each new tool opening another direction. He is a pianist, music producer, video maker and YouTube creator from Milan, Italy, who began playing piano at six. Classical studies at the Milan Conservatory came first; at eighteen he moved to jazz and found improvisation, stride piano and swing. He says that learning to improvise after years of classical training was not easy, though he found it cool. A classically trained pianist who found improvising hard at first hints at how deliberate his move into jazz was, and that he was willing to be a beginner again. He describes his style as combining several genres, with elements from jazz such as stride piano, swing and soul and from electronic dance music such as electro swing and swing house. He names every stride player he can as favourites, from James P. Johnson and Fats Waller to Willie The Lion Smith and Art Tatum, along with newer pianists such as Bud Powell, Oscar Peterson, Michel Petrucciani, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and Hiromi. A video and his electro swing remix of A Friend Like Me led Wolfgang to contact him and ask for piano on Upside Down. A list of influences that runs from stride pianists to Hiromi hints at a pianist who treats jazz history as a living resource instead of a single style, borrowing across eras. His aim on Dangerous and Through the Night, he explains, was to leave electro swing behind and write tracks with more of a house feel. His What's...? In 2 minutes series, which came from his search for a new format for the channel, aims to show how music works even to people who know nothing about music theory. He says a course he created combines music theory with the modern way of producing music, because many people nowadays start from the computer. CMUSE writes of his recent piece on Korobeiniki, a Russian love song that grew popular as the soundtrack to Nintendo's 1998 Tetris game, remarking that for this pianist music is a game to be played. A teacher of theory through two-minute videos and a ragtime arrangement of a game theme suggest a musician who likes to make music playful and approachable, and who uses video as a way to explain it.
