Creepy Nuts

Creepy Nuts was announced as the artist behind the opening theme of the TV anime Dandadan, with the new song “Otonoke.” In the announcement, DJ Matsunaga says the moment he feels most sure of a song is when he thinks he has made a song that does not exist in this world, and that “Otonoke” is exactly that. The rapper R-Shitei says he wrote his lyrics after seeing a likeness between the series, in which spirits attach themselves to people by resonating with pain and sadness, and his own idea of the relationship between a music maker and a listener. In Billboard Japan he explained that the usual order was reversed: normally Matsunaga sends a beat and he raps over it, but this time he began with a primal, non-verbal rhythm. Taking “Dandadan” itself as the rhythmic hook, he kept the same rhyme through the verses, recorded scat-like melodies and sent them to Matsunaga, who built the track around them. Matsunaga says the strong a cappella made big changes possible in the track. In another interview he said he builds a simple beat and sends it to R-Shitei to iterate on.
