The story of cinema staff begins in 2003, when 飯田 and 辻, who attended the same high school in Gifu, met by chance at a live house near the school. The two invited 三島, who played and sang on the street and was a friend from the soccer club 飯田 briefly belonged to, and that trio became the base of the band. They were first called REAL and changed the name to cinema staff when they entered university. A band that began in Gifu in 2003 and spent its early years as REAL may point to a name chosen only once the members had moved on to university. 久野, who had formed a band with 三島 in a university music circle devoted to American folk music, was invited in, and the present lineup was set in July 2006. The band then began playing mainly at live houses in their home area. 三島 takes the central role in writing the songs, and he calls NUMBER GIRL's album 『シブヤROCK TRANSFORMED状態』 the CD he has listened to most in his life. 三島's central role in songwriting, beside his fondness for a NUMBER GIRL live album, may hint at an influence running through the band's songs. A university music circle where 久野 and 三島 had already played together, beside a lineup set in July 2006, may suggest ties between members that predate the present four. In August 2007, after a Tokyo gig, a staff member of the label 残響record who had come to see another band discovered cinema staff. After the tour for Symmetoronica, their first one-man shows at Shibuya O-nest and Nagoya ROCK'N'ROLL in March 2010 sold out on both days. In 2012 the band finally played with bloodthirsty butchers, and at the tour final on April 14 at Shibuya Quattro, with LOST IN TIME as guests, they announced a move to a major label. A discovery at a Tokyo gig in 2007, beside two sold-out one-man shows in 2010, may suggest a gradual widening of the band's audience. The four-song single Name of Love takes its title track from the ending theme of Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2, and the other songs, OCEAN and さらば楽園よ, came out of the same writing. 三島 says the earlier song great escape was written by becoming the hero Eren Yeager, while this time the aim was to match the world of Attack on Titan itself. The band also played in Taiwan for the first time in five years, while their first China shows were postponed by a typhoon. Their album includes 岐路, a song about their hometown, and BRIGHTER, featuring the track maker 水槽. Two songs written for the same anime, beside a hometown song on an album, may point to a band that writes both to a brief and from its own surroundings.
