Browse piano sheets by Chanyeol on Zen Virtual Piano. Chanyeol is a rapper and a member of the group Exo. He has an elder sister, Park Yoo-ra, a former announcer at the South Korean broadcasting stations YTN and MBC. He wanted to be a singer after listening to Unconditional Kismet by Yoo Young-jin. In middle school he was a fan of rock bands including Muse, Green Day, Nirvana and X Japan, and he has cited Jason Mraz and Eminem as his biggest influences. A middle-school liking for rock bands and his naming of Eminem among his biggest influences may suggest a mix of band and rap influences. Chanyeol joined SM Entertainment as a trainee after taking second place at the 2008 Smart Model Contest. His focus started shifting toward rapping during that training. On February 23, 2012, he became the last Exo member to be officially introduced to the public. His wish to be a singer and his turn toward rapping while training may hint at a path through more than one style of music. Chanyeol and Punch sing “Stay with Me”, a single composed and arranged by the indie band Rocoberry with lyrics by Lee Seung-joo. Scenes from the drama are cut into the music video, which came out on December 3, 2016. In it Punch and Chanyeol perform the song together inside a recording studio. On February 13, Chanyeol was nominated for the Melon Top 10 Artist Award for his performance in “Stay with Me”. The second place at the 2008 Smart Model Contest and the Melon Top 10 Artist Award nomination for “Stay with Me” both put Chanyeol’s name forward in a contest or an award, one for modeling and one for a song. Chanyeol belongs to the music-production team Studio 519. Of the track “Roller Coaster”, he said at a showcase at the Muv Hall in Mapo-gu, Seoul: “I was involved in its production from A to Z.” He wrote the lyrics to two of the Side-B tracks, “I’m on Your Side Too” and “Clover.” Korea Herald quotes him saying: “When writing lyrics, I usually blend personal experiences with imagination.” His work with Studio 519 and his lyrics for Side-B tracks may suggest a hand in both making and writing music. Chanyeol began active duty military service on March 29, 2021. His official discharge followed on September 28, 2022.
