Browse piano sheets by Blanche M. Tice on Zen Virtual Piano. Blanche M. Tice was an American composer and publisher of popular music, born in Eureka Springs and educated at South Dakota State University. According to Nora Hulse in her 24 Piano Rags, she wrote some 70 compositions. Between 1908 and 1920 she ran her own publishing operation in Sioux City, Iowa, the Blanche M. Tice Music Pub. Co. Composing some 70 pieces and running a publishing business suggests a musician at home on both the creative and the commercial sides. Of ragtime interest are her “Jolly Widower” (1910) and “That Enticing Two Step” (1913). The two step has repeated themes played an octave higher than their first iterations, in AABBCCCC form with a 4-bar introduction and a 16-bar interlude. A title that appears to pun on the composer’s own name suggests some playfulness in how she presented her music. Her songs of those years include “’Twas in the Time of Roses” and “When I Come Back to Erin” (1914), “Little Sonny O’ Mine,” “Maybe” and “I’m Coming Back to Say Good-Bye” (1919), and “Dreaming My Life Away” and “In the Cottage That Stands on the Hill” (1920). Titles about coming back, home and a cottage on a hill hint at a taste for sentimental songs.
