Browse piano sheets by BLACKPINK on Zen Virtual Piano. BLACKPINK is a K-pop quartet made up of Rosé (Roseanne Park), Jennie Kim, Kim Jisoo and Lisa (Lalisa Manoban). After debuting in 2016 with four singles, including “Boombayah” and the synth-heavy “Playing With Fire,” the group kept quiet through much of 2017 before releasing “As If It’s Your Last” on 22 June. A group that kept quiet through much of 2017 gives that single the weight of a return. Yonhap News reported that the song is an electro hip-hop track with a tribal-sounding rhythm, produced by YG’s in-house producer-artists Teddy, Future Bounce and Lydia Paek, and more approachable and catchy than the group’s earlier songs. Three named producers on one electro hip-hop track show how much of the group’s sound is built around a team. Rosé described it with a laugh as “summery” and “brighter” than their past releases, and Jennie added, “I feel like this song is good for nice hot weather. I feel like people could easily dance to it.” Describing a song through the weather it suits puts the listener’s day at the centre of the pitch. Lisa credits the training process with helping the members find their talents: “We all tried rapping, we all tried singing, we all tried different kinds of styles and performances, so we naturally found our perfect spot.” Rosé said, “No matter how much we explore different genres we’re always going to keep that because we’ve almost been practicing that for ten years now,” speaking of the hip-hop and R&B in their music. Years of practising a mix of styles may explain why the group sounds settled in several of them at once. When the producer and creative director Teddy Park, who was born in South Korea but grew up in the United States, and some of his English-speaking co-writers work on new BLACKPINK music, the first version is often in English. Jennie says, “When we make demos of our songs, we do our demos in English — the whole song’s in English. We actually start off in English before we record any Korean lyrics.” Starting in English before Korean lyrics makes the group’s songs travel in two languages from their first draft. In 2017 Yonhap reported that the group was preparing to enter the Japanese market with a debut showcase at the Budokan arena in Tokyo on 20 July and a Japanese album on 9 August. A Japanese showcase and album in preparation show the group aiming beyond its home market.
