Browse piano sheets by Andrew Gold on Zen Virtual Piano. Andrew Gold was an American multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and record producer, born on August 2, 1951, in Burbank, California. He eventually followed his parents into show business. Gold started writing songs at 13. At 16, during a year at school in the United Kingdom, a selection of demos sent to Polydor Records' London office won him his first recording contract. By the early 1970s, Gold was working full-time as a musician, songwriter and record producer. Writing songs at 13, beside working full-time as a musician by the early 1970s, may hint at songwriting running through Gold's years as a working musician. Ronstadt's breakthrough record of 1974, Heart Like a Wheel, drew on Gold as both arranger and multi-instrumentalist, and he kept that role for her following two albums. His instruments ranged from guitar, bass and keyboards to accordion, synthesizer, harmonica, saxophone, flute, drums and percussion. He also played rarer ones, namely ukulele, musette and harmonium. Gold was also a sound engineer, film composer, session musician, actor and painter. Gold's arranging for Linda Ronstadt, beside roles as film composer and painter, may suggest work that reached well beyond a single studio role. When 10cc split at the end of 1983, Gold and Gouldman went on to form Wax, which kept recording and touring for five years. In 1996, Gold left Bryndle and released the children's Halloween-oriented novelty album Halloween Howls. Halloween Howls was a multi-tracked solo effort in which Gold essentially played every instrument and sang every vocal, on original songs styled after his favorite 1960s bands, such as The Beatles, The Byrds and The Beach Boys. Gold's five years with Wax, beside a multi-tracked solo album in 1996, may point to work both in a band and on his own. Andrew Gold's Halloween song Spooky, Scary Skeletons first came out on his 1996 album Halloween Howls: Fun & Scary Music. On the track, Gold handled the production, mixing, singing and every instrument himself. A xylophone stands out in it, representing the rattling bones of the skeletons. It was one of nine original songs on the album, released, according to Gold's 1996 liner notes, to "fill a void of availability for fun and scary Halloween original songs". It is tempting to link the nine original songs on the album with Gold's favorite 1960s bands The Beatles, The Byrds and The Beach Boys. The one-person recording of the track and Gold's long list of instruments both show a musician covering many parts himself. Gold died on June 3, 2011, in his sleep from heart failure, aged 59.
